Dilute vs. Dense Phase Conveying
Pneumatic conveyance systems have two distinct processes: dilute phase and dense phase. Both are methods of moving bulk materials through conveyor lines.
Understanding the difference between the two conveyance systems is only one of many steps in the selection process. At the most basic level, dilute phase pneumatic conveyance systems are considered fast, typically operating at higher velocities than dense phase pneumatic conveyance systems. Conversely, dense phase pneumatic conveyance systems tend to operate at lower material velocities when compared to dilute phase systems.
Other differences that are often present between the two systems include pressure and additional equipment needs. Most dilute phase systems will run at lower pressures, while most dense phase systems will run at higher pressures. Dense phase systems tend to be more expensive than dilute phase systems, and some of this can be attributed to the need for a compressor and a drier. Dilute phase systems tend to utilize positive displacement blowers.
