The metals industry is crucial for innovation and growth. It is at the heart of modern industry, and while the market has shifted over the past decade, the demand for metals has continued to grow. The industry has scaled to meet demand, and with that scale comes significant environmental concerns. Metal processes release dust, gases, and harmful particulates into the air, impacting workers and communities and driving regulatory standards.

Dustex, now part of ANDRITZ, has been providing services and solutions to the metals industry for 25 years. We understand that optimizing air pollution control is a central component of any metals operation. Here, we discuss some of our technologies for air pollution control in the metals industry.

A fabric filter dust collector, or a baghouse, is a collection device designed for very fine particulates. Baghouses utilize a permeable barrier through which the process gas passes, enabling the removal of the particulates from the gas stream. These systems can be used in processes up to 500°F (260°C) and are extremely efficient.

Dustex is a leading supplier of baghouses to the metals industry. Our Dustex® Pulse-Jet Fabric Filter is a leading technology, providing removal efficiencies of greater than 99.9% in most cases. Our pulse-jet fabric filter can be designed around an existing plant, ensuring a cost-effective and efficient integration with maximum pollution control.

Pulse-jet fabric filters are a leading air pollution control device in the metals industry. Our technologies are intelligently designed to ensure both safety and efficiency for our metals partners.

In the metals industry, processes like smelting and forging can result in harmful air emissions. The Dustex Circulating Dry Scrubber (CDS) is a highly efficient air pollution control system for the metals industry.

The Dustex CDS uses an entrained fluidized bed reactor for contacting the reagent with sulfur dioxide and particulate-laden flue gas. The intensive mixing in the reactor promotes the reaction of sulfur oxides in the flue gas with the hydrated lime particles. The mixture of reaction products is then carried downstream to a particulate collector, where it is separated from the gas stream. The collected material is recycled and reintroduced into the reaction tower. During this process, fresh reagent is continuously added while waste product is removed for disposal. Atomized water spray is injected into the reaction tower for operational efficiency.

The Dustex CDS is an optimal air pollution control technology, removing multiple pollutants. This includes SO2, SO3, HCl, HF, Pb, Dioxins, Furans, Hg, and even up to 60% NOx. This system has a small footprint and superior operational advantages, including a high recycle rate and low power consumption. It also requires less maintenance than other technologies thanks to its few moving parts and lack of slurry systems.

Dustex is your partner for Dry Sorbent Injection (DSI) Systems. We customize our Dustex DSI System for each individual application to meet the unique needs of your metal plant.

A DSI system can be a central component in an air pollution control strategy. These systems utilize an injection of a dry sorbent into the flue gas ductwork following the boiler to reduce acid gases. The acid gases react with the dry sorbent and are then collected in a downstream particulate control device.

DSI systems help plants meet regulatory requirements. These systems are highly efficient, providing removal efficiencies greater than 99% for HCl and significant removal efficiencies for SO2.

We offer custom Dustex DSI Systems. These systems are designed to meet the unique needs of the metal industry and can operate for long periods of time with little or no maintenance. When compared to other technologies, DSI systems have lower capital costs and a smaller footprint.

Mercury (Hg) emissions are common in the metals industry. Dustex designs and supplies Activated Carbon Injection (ACI) Systems capable of 99% removal efficiency for mercury.

Mercury may be emitted from various locations in metal facilities and can be released into the air. Regulations require plants to reduce and control emissions of mercury and mercury compounds. Our Dustex ACI System can help plants meet tightening regulations. We utilize CFD modeling to design a system that fits the unique needs of our partners.

When it comes to cyclones, Dustex is the brand you can trust. Since 1947, Dustex has been providing high-efficiency, cleanable cyclone technology.

Cyclone air pollution control systems use centrifugal force to separate particulate matter from process air. In the cyclone, the gas stream spins, and when the gas exits the cyclone, the momentum causes the particles to be separated from the gas stream.

Cyclones are efficient and low-maintenance systems. In the metals industry, cyclones are used to separate particulate matter from the gas stream and protect both the environment and equipment from harmful particulate matter. We offer five Dustex cyclones, including the following for the metals industry: high efficiency single tube cyclones, heavy duty primary pre-cleaner cyclones, steel high efficiency multiple tube cyclones, and cast iron multi-clones.
